Celebrities and their Eco-Conscious Cars

Cars
We're not car aficionados, but with all the recently unveiled plans for cleaner, more fuel-efficient autos, our interest has been piqued. Some of the prototypes are still a few years out, but the rides on the market now are nothing to scoff at. Here are a few we'd love to call ours and the celebrities who are eco-driven.

Mercedes BlueTEC
Sheryl Crow has been spotted cruising around in a Mercedes BlueTEC and Joel Madden raves about how much he likes his. Other BlueTEC drivers include Gwen Stefani and Naomi Watts. The diesel-fueled high-end sedan was recently named as one of the Top Green Car by Kelly Blue Book, and for good reason: it's the cleanest diesel out there, gets great gas mileage and when it comes to performance, well, it's a Mercedes. Starting at $50,575; more information at mbusa.com

Toyota Highlander Hydbrid
Mother-of-two Reese Witherspoon has plenty of room for the whole family in the Highlander Hybrid, which she's been seen in around Los Angeles. With an estimated 27 mpg freeway mileage, this SUV surpasses any other big rig on the road for eco-friendliness. Starting at $34,700; more information at Toyota.com

Lexus LS 600h L
The leading auto in the luxury hybrid world is the Lexus LS 600h. Owners (including Ashton Kutcher and Paul McCartney) can zoom from 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds, making this a performance vehicle for the future. The price may be six figures, but if you can afford it, this is the cream of the car crop. Starting at $106,035; more information at lexus.com

Toyota Prius
This is the trailblazer in eco-friendly cars, so it's no wonder that a bevy of celebs has been driving them for years. Cameron Diaz and Leonardo DiCaprio were early PriPri drivers and now everyone from Jessica Biel to Ryan Gosling to America Ferrera cruises around L.A. in their sedans. The new 2010 body style will undoubtedly be a hot upgrade for the celeb set. Starting at $22,000; more information at Toyota.com

And unfortunately we don't have a photo of it, but Eva Mendes has just bought what she calls a very inexpensive car -- a 1984 Mercedes station wagon that runs on vegetable oil.
